Auditioning for an OUMS Ensemble

General Information

Auditions take place for all the university orchestras over the weekend of Saturday 0th/Sunday 1st week in Michaelmas term. Representatives of each orchestra will be present at every audition. All freshers have an opportunity to sign up for an audition slot at the OUSU Freshers' Fair during 0th week - look out for the OUMS/University Orchestras stall.

How long are the auditions and what should I prepare?

The auditions are approximately 5 minutes long and you will be asked to perform a prepared piece and a short extract of orchestral sight-reading. Accompanists will not be provided, and it is not expected that auditionees bring their own - it is usual for people to play a solo piece or the solo part from a sonata/concerto or similar.

Do you want to re-audition?

If you missed the chance to sign up for an audition slot at Freshers' Fair or want to re-audition, please contact the OUMS secretary.
